Yayness! A little over a week away from my mom and stepdad!
I'm housesitting by myself for a coworker of my mom's. It's pretty nice, considering it's where I used to live!
The pet I'm sitting is Maggie, an adorable (older) little white dog (breed name just escaped me, but it's the same as Toto from Wizard of Oz, and not a Westie). She's very sweet and seems to enjoy sleeping the most out of any activity.
I got a freebie AOHell disk from Walmart, so I'm mooching off them for a free trial period since the owner doesn't have DSL or a cable modem.
Today, however, when I started up my Mac after I got back from work, I was surprised to get the message: "None of your trusted wireless networks could be reached. Connect to the network "[network name]"?"
I clicked yes, and found that I was suddenly granted wireless highspeed, although the signal was quite weak. Apparently one of the neighbors has a wireless network and failed to set up any sort of security. I could mooch, but I'd feel bad about it, so I turned off my wireless card. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can figure out which neighbor it is and let them know that they need to put up some security.
After all, if a girl with no skill as a hacker can get into your wireless network (and through that, any computer on the network), what could an experienced hacker get to? It's a scary thought.
Other than that, it's been uneventful. Maggie's used to getting up at 6:30am, so she expects me to be up then, too, even though I don't go to work until 9am. Getting woken up at the ass-crack of dawn by an almost obscenely cheerful small-breed dog isn't my idea of a good morning. (My idea of a "good morning" is waking up around noon.)
Oh well. Maybe if I can get myself to not go back to sleep I can get out of the house early enough to get myself some donuts. Mmm... junk food... ^_^
