I'll admit that I might spend just a little bit too long on my filesharer (Acquisition) feeding my insatiable appetite for anime.
Generally I get fansubs, Anime Music Videos ("AMVs"), and sometimes some desktop pictures of whatever anime has caught my attention. Right now it's Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto.
Anyway, I'm always excited to get new AMVs. Most of the time they are songs I haven't heard yet (or just need to be reminded of why I like them) and also they're just fun to watch. The good, the bad, and the ones that are so horrible they've scarred me for life, I've watched them all.
Now, ever since I first started filesharing I've gotten annoyed by spam. My theory is that someone has an ingenious little program that reads incoming searches and modifies a filename to match it. Then, unsuspecting users will end up with an ad for "Free iPods!" rather than the character they were hoping for. I've gotten them numerous times, and generally avoid files that are the exact search I put in.
If only they'd left it to just images. I would have been content.
Oh no. They've got to go further! My first warning was when the file "Naruto_Main_Theme.mp3" turned out to be some Clinton impersonator rambling off an ad for the ever-popular Free iPod Club.
Apparently they've started looking for the most popular files and naming their spam files with that name. But that's not the worst.
The absolute worst are the videos. Not only are they always porn-spam, but now these malignant little beasties will make your default web browser pop open with no less than four porn sites as soon as you open the video. Of course, this pushes the video into the background, so you end up with some awkward seconds of your computer blaring out the sound of loud sex while you try to get to it to close it. More browser windows open as the video is allowed to run.
Now, of course, the first couple I got I figured I could avoid later. They had very similar names, the anime, a popular character's name from the anime, and then "hentai.mov". So just avoid hentai movies, right?
Nope! The last one I got was worse yet. The title was "Naruto Assault Limp Bizket.mov" so I assumed it was an AMV to a Limp Bizket song. Not a chance.
I should have been tipped off and muted my computer when I noticed that Explorer was opening up with Quicktime. However, having just updated I assumed that it was something related to the new version.
Yet another loud-sex porn video.
I really want to know who is doing this, so I can set certain parts of their anatomy on fire! I'm sick and tired of crap like this, and I know it's not going to get any better because there's no way the government is going to try to do anything with controlling filesharers.
I'm thinking of writing to Acquisition's creator(s) and asking if there is any way to stop this vile evil.
The "Can Spam" act is all well and good, but I still get about 150 spam emails a day.
And now this. Gah! I probably sound a lot more civil that I actually want to be, since I'm not going to type the three extra pages of cursing that's been in the verbal version of this rant.
I'm just glad that the times I've gotten these demonic videos has been when I was either alone in my room, or when my roommate was sound asleep. I don't want to know what she'd think if she randomly heard loud sex coming out of my side of the room at night.
Bloody freakin' hell.... Why couldn't they just have been content with easily avoidable name-changed pictures? I swear, if I ever catch someone who does that, I'll probably have something akin to the "guts for garters" comment.
